Tips for helping you pass the ICBC written test
- Read the ICBC Book.
You can download the book from the ICBC website. Study the book and take any and all practice tests. The knowledge needed to pass the written test is in the book. Click here to download the book. - Study the Book From ICBC.
Some people think they will take the written test without having studied the book. You can do that, but you will fail the test. It’s not just a test of common sense. It’s a test of the rules of the road. There will be questions about road signs, and technical things like how far you can park from the curb (not far).
You can take the test over and over, but you will have to pay the fee each time you want to take the test.

Tips for helping you pass the ICBC driving test
- Make Sure You Have Your Current Valid Vehicle Registration and Insurance With You.
Lots of people don’t even get to take the driving test because they show up with incomplete paperwork. - Always keep to the posted speed limit. Watch out for School and Playground zones
- When you turn right, shoulder check on your right to see if there are any cylists, pedestrians or other road users.
- Make a full stop at stop signs and red lights. When it is safe to pull out, do slowly and make sure you scan the intersection.
- Changing lanes or direction ? make sure you mirror check, signal and shoulder check.
- Always keep a safe distance from other road users.
- Scan the intersection before you drive through - even if the light is green
- When merging on a highway, use the acceleration lane to get up to the speed of the highway traffic - But Don't go over the speed limit. Then merge when it is safe.
- Drive according to road conditions
- Practice, Practice, Practice
